Third resignation within Barcelona’s board of directors
Barcelona’s vice president for marketing, Julio Guillou, resigned on Thursday, becoming the third to resign from Joan Laporta’s board of directors.
The reasons for the resignation, reported by La Vanguardia, may be due to the fact that the vice president did not actively participate in the negotiations for the new contract with Nike, which was recently renewed until 2038.
Julio Guillou, director of the Cap Roig Festival and president of the Groupe Clipper, was responsible for Barça’s agreement with Spotify.
Guillou’s departure comes amid the “tsunami” caused by the Dani Olmo case with Barcelona, at a time when the team is competing for the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah.
This is the third resignation from Laporta’s board of directors, who took office in March 2021.
The first resignation was from Jordi Llorado, who was responsible for the “Espai Barça” project, and who left in June 2023 due to his disagreement with the choice of Limak Construction to carry out the construction work on the new Camp Nou stadium.
The vice president for the economic sector, Eduard Romeu, also resigned last spring, most likely due to his incompatibility with his new professional duties.
Barcelona’s board of directors currently consists of 17 members.
